Firefighters have revealed that they may never know what sparked the fire which caused a mass evacuation of the Q1 Super Tower on the Gold Coast. Furious residents have checked out of the hotel over the handling of yesterday's rubbish fire which left several people injured.

Lucas Percuers' school holiday plans didn't include an emergency dash to hospital. The seven -year -old boy auntie's dad now bear the bruises of a brush with danger. It just makes it feel really angry and frustrated.

They were hurt hustling out of the Q1 in a smoke -filled fire escape. A lot of the injuries we face could have been avoided. A blaze which began in a rubbish compactor on a ground -level garage sent smoke pouring through the building.

There's too much smoke, sorry. Outside the building, alarms could clearly be heard. Firefighters say there were announcements too over the hotel's PA system. But on the 48th floor where the Percure family were staying, claims of no warning.

Your mind just races through so many different scenarios. Today the family packed up and moved out. John Foley isn't happy either. All hell broke loose. His wife, Shireen, inhaled smoke before firefighters could get to the 60th floor and rescue them.

We thought we wouldn't get out of the place, to be honest with you. The Q1 was last inspected by the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service last year and was found to be compliant with all owner -occupier requirements.

Fire investigators have revealed they can't determine exactly what started the fire. There's no answer either from the Q1. Management still refusing to respond to 7 News' request for comment.

On the Gold Coast, Amanda Abate, 7 News.
