Surrounded, officers tackled a suspect to the ground. He was swearing at the top of his voice. The man's accused of shoving 73 -year -old Lois Devison into a shop window just moments earlier.

This young man jumped out in front of me just right in my face. He looked crazed. He was drunk, I think, because he smelled of alcohol. Local MP Stephen Patterson took her to safety and raised the alarm.

Thankfully, myself and my colleague were right close by and were able to take Lois out of harm's way. The 29 -year -old who was reportedly released on bail the day before then made a dash to a news agency.

But his getaway was short -lived. It's made me more aware. I was very shaky when I came. Businesses say a police crackdown on anti -social troublemakers in the city is only moving the problem down the tracks to Glenilk.

This is more unrest and people screaming and yelling at each other. So it is a bit of an issue and a bit of a concern. And then when it happens, there's no police presence here at all.

Police say they're providing a highly visible presence following a recent spate of crimes in the area and will continue to do so. But won't say if patrol numbers have been increased.

We are desperately in need of a permanent increase in police down here. So our residents, our shoppers and our visitors can feel safe.
